The Volcano That Actually Erupts

A papier-mâché volcano with a bottle inside. Add vinegar to the baking soda and it erupts for about 8 seconds.

The recipe

1. Baking soda in the bottle
2. A squirt of washing-up liquid (this makes more foam)
3. Red food colouring
4. Pour in the vinegar and stand back

What I learned

The foam is carbon dioxide gas. It’s the same gas that’s in fizzy drinks. Real volcanoes use melted rock instead, which is much harder to get.
